Fences by August Wilson

directed by Ethan Sinnott

February 12-13, 2009

The Gilbert C. Eastman Studio Theatre

Open-captioned for non-signers.

The Production

FENCES is a bittersweet tale of family love, fate, and baseball set in 1957 Pittsburgh and pre-Civil Rights America. It tells the story of the proud Troy Maxson, a former Negro Leagues star who toils in obscurity as a garbage collector, struggling mightily to hold onto his dignity despite the demons in his soul. It is a losing battle which estranges him from those who love him.

FENCES won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Play in 1987.

This production is the first Deaf production of any August Wilson play.
