Monique Holt, MFA Adjunct Professor
- MFA, Towson University
- BFA, New York University Tisch School for the Arts
SHORT BIOGRAPHY Monique Holt is a story artist (actress, poet & storyteller). She obtained her BFA in Acting, from Tisch School for the Arts at New York University. She is a member of the actors' unions: Equity, SAG and AFTRA. She has been seen on stage, commercials, TV and independent films. She is signed with Caryln Davis Casting. Monique was awarded a Presidential Fellowship (2006-2008) at Gallaudet University and is working towards an MFA in Theatre at Towson University. Her training is mostly in acting (Shakespeare, Grotowski), physical movement (Six Viewpoints), and dancing in modern dance (Merce Cunningham and Peridance). She was taught herself how to translating from English text into ASL and LSF. Most of her work entails acting in a variety of roles, translating from English text to ASL (especially Shakespearean plays), creating original poems, adapting Asian folktales, directing plays, instructing students in theater & the acting business, and advocating for Deaf artists. Once in a while, she works as a sign master for Arena Stage, Kennedy Center, Theatre J, Everyman Theatre and Open Circle Theatre. She created an original play: THE NIGHT WAS SO HUNGRY THAT ATE THE MOON which she premiered at Draumasmidjan - Iceland's International Deaf Theatre Festival in 2006. Her ensemble went to Akureyri and performed the show last July. This show was, also, performed for the Kennedy Center's Education Summer Program. She performed with Willy Conley in a special memorial of John Belluso and his work at the Kennedy Center. With her crazy schedule, she is only able to do some poetry and storytelling in between her teaching and studies. Her most recent original ASL poem, "Open Conversation" - was presented and dedicated to Dr. Robert Davila on the occasion of his Installation Ceremony on May 9, 2007.
